Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning are The Runaways

Dakota Fanning & Kristen Stewart to bring to the silver screen the story of all-girl rock band The Runaways

The Runaways is a 2010 biographical film, based on the 1970s all-girl rock band of the same name. The film was written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, and stars Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett, Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie, Stella Maeve as Sandy West, Scout Taylor-Compton as Lita Ford, and Michael Shannon as Kim Fowley. Alia Shawkat plays the band's bassist, a fictional character named Robin, created due to alleged legal issues preventing the portrayal of bassist Jackie Fox.

The film follows two friends, Jett and Currie, as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands. They fall under the Svengali-like influence of rock impresario Kim Fowley, who turns the group into an outrageous success and a family of misfits. With its tough-chick image and raw talent, the band quickly earns a name for itself—and so do its two leads: Joan is the band’s pure rock’ n’ roll heart, while Cherie, with her Bowie-Bardot looks, is the sex kitten. The film is partially based on lead-singer Cherie Currie's 1989 autobiography Neon Angel: The Cherie Currie Story which details her fractured childhood, the group's meteoric rise to fame, and her subsequent battle and recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

The film will have its world premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival on January 24th, and be released in select North American theatres on March 19, 2010. No date yet has been set for a Philippine release. But check out this hot trailer...

Astroboy trailer

ASTROBOY is based on the highly successful Japanese franchise of the same name by Osamu Tezuka, which is perhaps one of the most popular classic anime creations ever made. Set in futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist in the image of the son he has lost. Unable to fullfill the grieving man's expectations, our hero embarks on a journey in search of acceptance, experiencing betrayal and a netherworld of robot gladiators, before he returns to save Metro City and reconcile with the father (voiced by Nicolas Cage) who had rejected him.

ASTROBOY is scheduled for international release on OCTOBER 23, 2009

Land of the Lost trailer

I cannot believe that there's not much publicity or trailers for this movie here in Iloilo City. It looks like a cool and funny movie. I know Will Ferrell has been making lots of lame comedies. But he does once in a while get in on projects that are profound and view-worthy (like Stranger than Fiction). I hope this movie really is good because I'm not really getting any excitement from Transformers 2 and that really dumb G.I. Joe movie adaptation

Drag Me to Hell trailer

In 1981, director Sam Raimi (& producers Robert Tapert & producer/actor Bruce Campbell) broke into the film scene with one of the earliest indie horror movies that instantly became a horror classic (not to mention still one of the scariest movies ever made) EVIL DEAD. After a couple of more movies, Sam Raimi refrained from horror movies with movies like Darkman, and took time to enjoy in his success as the director of the Spider-man movies. Fans of the director have been waiting too long for Raimi to continue the Evil Dead saga or for Raimi to make another horror movie. The long wait is over. Raimi returns to the genre that made him rise to fame. Raimi's new film is a Horror. This year, Raimi brings us the return of True Horror with...
